Aluminum anode
Aluminum anodes have certain advantages over traditional zinc anodes. The alloy from which the aluminum anode is made has a greater negative charge than zinc and a longer life, which means that the anode is more active and for a longer period of time. In total, an aluminum anode produces approx. 70% more amp./hour during its lifetime than a corresponding traditional zinc anode. As a side benefit, you halve the weight and save some on the price.
ATTENTION! There must be no physical connection between the aluminum and zinc anodes as the aluminum anode will then protect the zinc node. Therefore, all anodes on e.g. drives and outboard motors be of either aluminum or zinc.
Many manufacturers today use aluminum anodes as standard on their new engines and boats, e.g. Mercruiser, Mercury, Yanmar, Selva, Torqeedo, Princess and Sunseeker.
